If you read our article about the longest wooden roller coasters, you know we love a good roller coaster.  However, instead of the longest, this time we went for a list of the fastest wooden roller coasters around the world.  So, without further ado, here are some of the fastest wooden roller coasters in the world.

6. Outlaw Run

Ranking at number 6 is the Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City.  When it debuted in 2013, it held the record of the steepest drop on any wooden roller coaster in the world at 81 degrees.  Its current claim to fame is being the only wooden roller coaster to feature multiple inversions.

Speed: 68 mph (109 km/h)

5. Kampf der Giganten

Known also as Battle of the Giants, Colossos - Kampf der Giganten is tied with Outlaw Run for the fifth fastest wooden roller coaster in the world.  Colossos was one of the first wooden roller coasters in the world to be made using prefabricated construction.  In addition, Colossos was the first wooden roller coaster to utilize magnetic brakes.

Speed: 68 mph (109 km/h)

4. El Toro

Coming in at number 4 is El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, New Jersey.  When it debuted in 2006, it held the steepest drop of any wooden roller coaster at 76 degrees.  Since 2016, of all the wooden roller coasters, it still holds the records for the fourth-tallest lift and the second longest drop.

3. Wildfire

Debuting in 2016, the Wildfire is a wooden roller coaster at Kolmården Wildlife Park located in Sweden.  It is known as the fastest wooden roller coaster in all of Europe and second tallest wooden roller coaster in the world.  Additionally, it ranks as the 3rd fastest wooden roller coaster in the world.

Speed: 70.2 mph (113.0 km/h)

2. Goliath

When Goliath debuted in 2014, it held the record for three world records among wooden roller coasters.  The records were for the fastest, steepest, and longest of wooden roller coasters.  Today, it now ranks as number two when it comes to speed.  However, it still retains the world record for the longest wooden roller coaster.

Speed: 72 mph (116 km/h)

1. Lightning Rod

Completed in 2016 by the world renown wooden roller coaster manufacturers, Rock Mountain Construction, Lightning Rod is known as the fastest wooden roller coaster in the world.  Lightning Rod narrowly took over the number one spot by 1mph.  It is also known as the first wooden roller coaster to utilize a launch system instead of a traditional chain lift hill.

Speed: 73 mph (117 km/h)
