A new site dedicated to Pilings along the Gulf Coast has been launched. The piling information packed site is GulfCoastPiling.com and was created by the folks at Building Products Plus as a place to collect and compile information about pilings of all types.

Structural Foundation Columns

Structural Foundation Columns (SFC's) are non-tapered wood pilings and are probably the most interesting product to hit the Gulf Coast in recent years. Builders, contractors, and engineers are quickly seeing the value of SFC's.

First, because they are handmade they are leaps and bounds more attractive than regular round pilings or square pilings.

Second, their uniformity makes them easier to install than regular wood pilings.

Third, according to engineers they are stronger than square pilings of comparable size.

Fourth, because they are uniformly round they should withstand storm surge waters more effectively than square pilings by allowing rushing water to pass evenly around them instead of creating a low-pressure area on the backside (down stream side) which can "dig out" pilings and cause them to collapse.
